The TOEFL iBT is ETS’s academic English proficiency test, accepted by 13,000+ universities and institutions in more than 160 countries. For most international applicants it’s the one English score an admissions office, scholarship board, or visa officer will actually compare line-by-line against a hard cutoff — and a single band below the requirement can hold up an offer or a study permit.
